LLWYNHENDY Health Centre’s first Children’s Flu Immunisation open day was a great success as the surgery in Llanelli looks to different ways to make it easier for people to receive their vaccinations without an appointment.
Held during half term and making the most of the Halloween fun, parents were invited to drop in at their convenience and were greeted by staff in fancy dress, colouring competitions and a cake stall to help entertain and distract the children.
Rachel Galloway from Llwynhendy Health Centre, said: “Our mission this year was to change and mix up the way we promote and hold our flu clinics by holding a variety of clinics to make it easier for people to attend and maximise the uptake.
“We wanted to make the event fun for children and not a normal trip to the surgery. The whole event was about enjoyment and not what can often be a daunting, anxious wait for parents and the children. No tears were seen during the event which is normally a very common occurrence in the surgery.”
Llwynhendy Health Centre will continue to hold ‘out of the ordinary’ flu clinics to help those who find it difficult to attend during the surgery’s normal opening hours.
Their next event will be an open evening for working patients to receive their flu jab.
If you or your child is eligible for a flu vaccination, contact your GP surgery to make an appointment or to find out more about this year’s vaccination visit www.beatflu.org [1].
