NEIL Hamilton, Leader of UKIP Wales and AM for Mid & West Wales, is calling on people in his Region to support small businesses and shop locally in the run up to Christmas.
Mr Hamilton, Party Spokesman for Agriculture and Rural Affairs, is backing a national initiative, which is running for the sixth year in a row, culminating in Small Business Saturday on December 1.
To promote the event the Small Business Saturday bus tour, delivering a mentoring programme, is currently travelling across the UK and will be calling at over 30 different towns and cities including the Guildhall Square, in Carmarthen, on Thursday November 15 from 10am- 2pm.
Mr Hamilton said:
“I welcome this annual event which will, I hope, inspire people to support the campaign and buy locally sourced food and other products from their community. Small Business Saturday UK is a great initiative which has proved highly successful and very important for our local economy.
“I am also delighted to see three companies from my Region, ‘Tea Traders’ and ‘Spiffy’ from Carmarthen, and ‘Natural Weigh’ from Powys, highlighted in the ‘Small Biz 100’, which is listing one company a day, leading up to Small Business Saturday.
“I hope all communities will celebrate the day and support their own small businesses in the run up to Christmas and beyond.
“We all have unique small independent shops in our midst where we can buy high quality items but we must use them, not only at Christmas but all year round to ensure their survival.”
Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-political, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
Small Business Saturday 2017, was the most successful campaign yet when an estimated £748 million was spent on the day and the Prime Minister, the Mayor of London; fashion designer Alexa Chung and actress Billie Piper all publicly supporting the campaign.
Over 115,000 tweets sent on the day itself reaching more than 115 million people, with #SmallBizSatUK UK trending at number one in the UK.
Backing from local authorities was up from 80% in 2016 to 87% this year, with active support for the campaign including small business events and free parking on the day, meaning wherever you were in the UK, Small Business Saturday was happening nearby.
For the last five years, the 100 have not only received exposure on Small Business Saturday’s social media channels and in the local and national press, but also joined the Small Business Saturday team in London at receptions in both Downing Street and The Treasury Drum with the Chancellor of the Exchequer
