The ‘Amigos’ cycling club have presented a whopping £18,000 to Maggie’s Cancer centre this evening, Friday (Sep 8) at the Colliers Arms in Pwll, following their mammoth charity cycle ride from North to South Wales earlier in the year.
One of the main organisers Roger Bowen said that it was a tough ride, for which the group had trained hard for. He said: “We cycle each year to raise money for charity. We hoped that we would get 100 people doing it but we managed to get 21 people this year. Maggies is a national charity and they have a centre in Swansea with a local presence.
Another of the organisers Hefin Williams said: “What was nice was that we had a number of female participants who had never cycled more than 50 miles. It was a two day ride from Bangor to Aberystwyth and then from Aberystwyth to Singleton Hospital. Amigos is a cycling club and we train at Snap Fitness in Llanelli.”
Speaking about how cancer affects so many people Roger Bowen said: “There is a link to some of the riders whose families have suffered or are suffering with cancer. Several joined us on the ride to raise awareness. This is going to be an annual event and our aim is to get it up to 100 cyclists on the next event.”
