A fly infestation in Llanelli has baffled Carmarthenshire County Council. Residents in the Seaside area of the town have experienced a major infestation of flies over the last few days and many have taken to social media to complain.
Local resident Stephen Murfitt wrote to Llanelli Online to say:
“Hi I live in seaside and over the last 3 weeks have been swarmed with flies. My neighbour has had the same problem it’s out of proportion.
Can we as residents of a beautiful area get some answers? We can’t open doors at we will get 30 plus flies in the house in an hour.
We can’t sit in the back yard as is fly city. Couldn’t get the bbq out this weekend as it would be like cooking on a marsh. We want answers . It’s got to be the water works that’s going on in our area . Not only have we now had yo suffer road closures it has now resulted in closed doors on what should be a beautiful summer evening.”
In a statement executive board member for public protection, Cllr Philip Hughes, said:
“Our environmental health officers have visited the area and carried out extensive enquiries however nothing has, as yet, come to light that would explain the reasons for the infestation. They are continuing to monitor the area. If you have specific information that might help their enquiries, we’d encourage you to send details to publicprotection@carmarthenshire.gov.uk”
We have also contacted Dwr Cymru for a statement. We had not received a response at the time of publishing this article.
