Llanelli residents woken with Bank Holiday bang

RESIDENTS in Sandy Road claim that they heard two loud explosions yesterday evening, Monday (May 28) at around 12:30am. Some residents reported seeing white flashes followed by flames coming from a pylon on land near to the new Stradye Park development.

Unconfirmed reports claim that the police and fire service were in attendance.

A spokesperson for Western Power Distribution said:

“We had a cable fault on a tower at Sandy Road, Llanelli at 12.31am this morning which resulted in the incident you described.

“Supplies were not affected, although there would have been a momentary dip in power and those nearby may have heard noise associated with the fault.

“Repairs have been undertaken and we apologise for any inconvenience to customers.”

Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service provided the following statement:

On Tuesday, 29/05/2018 at 12:35am, firefighters from Llanelli were called to a electric pylon on fire near Clos Caer Elms, Llanelli.

On the advice of Western Power, the Fire Service allowed the fire to burn out naturally and left the incident at 03:09am.

A spokesperson for MAWWFS said: “On Tuesday, 29/05/2018 at 12:35am, firefighters from Llanelli were called to a electric pylon on fire near Clos Caer Elms, Llanelli.

“On the advice of Western Power, the Fire Service allowed the fire to burn out naturally and left the incident at 03:09am.”
