Last week’s announcement by Carmarthenshire Council to collect glass from the kerbside has been welcomed by Member of the Senedd Lee Waters.
The change, which will begin from next year will mean an end to visiting bottle banks to drop off empty jars and bottles.
Mr Waters said it was a “victory for common sense” and for the local litter taskforce which has long called for the change in the county.
“The litter taskforce I helped to setup in 2016 brought together residents and community groups across Carmarthenshire who are fed up with the problem of litter. Broken glass strewn around bottle banks and on our back streets is a danger as much as it is a blight on our communities. I’m pleased that after several years of chipping away at it, the taskforce’s ambition for glass to be collected at the kerbside has now been adopted by the Council. This will make a marked difference to public areas, like the bottle bank in Dafen, which regularly overfills and spoils the surroundings.”
Mr Waters would welcome any ideas for the litter taskforce that it can suggest to the Council or Welsh Government – firstname.lastname@example.org
