A 19-year-old woman from Penygraig in Llanelli has been sentenced to prison for 18 weeks suspended for 12 months for a racially aggravated attack on a police constable.

The court heard that on 01/12/2020 at Llanelli, Miss Cerys Elizabeth Thomas of 41 Parc Richard assaulted Police Constable Ashley McAvoy, an emergency worker, acting in the
exercise of his functions, by beating him Contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 1 of the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018.

Thomas pleaded guilty however the charge was withdrawn in favour of another offence.

The court heard that on 01/12/2020 at Ammanford, Thomas assaulted Police Constable Siobhan Rees, an emergency worker acting in the exercise of her functions, by beating her Contrary to section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and section 1 of the Assaults on Emergency Workers (Offences) Act 2018.

Thomas pleaded guilty to the charge.

She was also ordered to pay compensation of £75.00, a surcharge of £128 and costs of £85.
