SCARLETS recorded a thorough win over Ulster in their Guinness Pro14 fixture at Parc Y Scarlets on Friday (Nov 23).
With just 1 point between the sides in Conference B ahead of the match it was the visitors who started strongly with Dave Shanahan going over for the first try of the evening.
The home side responded well with prop Werner Kruger driving over to score.
The Welsh region started to take control of the game with young scrum half Kieran Hardy and centre Kieron Fonotia both crossing the line to stretch their lead to 22 – 7 at half time.
Scarlets started the second half strongly and secured the bonus point when Tom Prydie barged his way over to score his sides forth try.
The visitors did manage to add to their score with Jonny Stewart darting over towards the final minutes of the match but it was merely a consolation.
Wayne Pivac’s side now overtake Ulster to move up to second in the Conference, with defending champions Leinster in first place.
Speaking after the victory, head coach Pivac said: “We knew today is a big game in terms of our conference. We knew if we didn’t get the result then Ulster would have a buffer on us.
“We are reasonably happy. We talked about not repeating the performance against Edinburgh. We put the jersey on making sure that everybody offers themselves physically and it was a lot better tonight.”
Scarlets next match will be against Glasgow Warriors at Scotstoun Stadium.
