TWO second half tries were enough for Scarlets to end their losing run with a 22-13 victory over Dragons at Parc Y Scarlets this evening, Saturday (Jan 5).
A high penalty count against the Dragons allowed for fly half Dan Jones to kick 12 points with opposite number Josh Lewis claiming one for the visitors to make the half time scoreline 12-3.
In the second half Lewis kicked his second penalty to bring the men of Gwent to within one score.
It took until the 57th minute for the first try to be scored. Good work from the Scarlets forwards resulted in space out wide for winger Ioan Nicholas to dive over in the corner. Jones was wide with the conversion.
With more pressure up front from the Scarlets pack, replacement scrum half Sam Hidalgo-Clyne took a quick tap penalty to sneak over the line to score his sides second try and take the game away from Dragons. Jones’ conversion hit the post.
Dragons did have the final say but it was a late consolation try by replacement flanker James Benjamin. Jason Tovey added the final conversion.
The win keeps Scarlets in contention of reaching the Pro14 play-offs and a much needed boost following a difficult run of defeats.
Final score: Scarlets 22 – 13 Dragons
Man of the match: Dan Jones (Scarlets)
