KIDWELLY Town Council has taken a major step to promote the interests of young people in the town of Kidwelly and village of Mynyddygarreg.
The Council has voted to have two youth representatives on the council.
The young people who must be between 16 and 25 will be represented on the Town Council and entitled to attend the Full Council and all council committees with full speaking rights.
The Mayor of Kidwelly, Councillor Philip Thompson said: “ I am delighted by this decision of the Council, which is a progressive and positive step to ensure the Council represents the whole community and listens to the voice, concerns and wishes of young people here in Kidwelly and Mynyddygarreg.
“Young people are our future and we need to involve them in local decision making.”
Town Clerk Virginia O’Reilly said: “ We will now be notifying local schools of this decision and opportunity and will publicise the precise election/appointment arrangements shortly and look forward to welcoming the youth representatives onto the Council.”
