ON Sunday (Sep 2), Carmarthenshire Young Farmers Club took on the challenge of creating a piece of Land Art on a field near Gelli Aur, Llandeilo to welcome the Tour of Britain race to the area.
It was an amazing opportunity to raise awareness of the Young Farmers organisation in Carmarthenshire and to also showcase that this unique organisation is open to everyone and offers a wide variety of activities for all. This certainly showed that we are ready to work together and alongside other organisations to welcome the Race to the area and to see some of the most famous cyclists cycling through our County.
It was also lovely to see many of our members, friends and supporters at Gelli Aur on the day, some driving tractors in a circle as the bike wheels, others helping with the design and also supporting and waving as the race passed the field.
From the ground there wasn’t a specific image to be seen, but from the sky and as the helicopter flew over our heads, the picture of the bike came alive looking very effective.
As a County we would like to thank several people for their support to create the picture. Thank you to the staff at Gelli Aur Farm for the perfect location and for being so ready to help; to D. John Rees Haulage Cross Hands, Hafod Farm Supplies and to Llandeilo Show Committee for the resources to create the shape of the bike. Our thanks also go to all our members and friends for helping with the design on the day.
We hope that we will see the Tour of Britain race returning to the county in the near future.
