THE younger and older people of Llanelli have been coming together to take part in The Llanelli Voices project that is being facilitated by People Speak Up this Summer. Throughout the summer they have been working with different visual artists, storytellers , poets and rappers to express themselves, talk to each other and create conversations around how they feel about their own identity and the town they live in.
So far they have created a pop up arts and story space in The Llanelli Market, they have created street art around the town centre, with kind permission from Cllr Emlyn Dole and Llanelli Town Council. The group have also been visiting Bryn Illtyd Care home to gather their ideas for the street art and are attending Cilymaenllwyd care home to gather stories and share stories. You may even see some older people on the streets of Llanelli this week, making their mark with the younger people.
You may have seen us creating spoken word and sand art on Llanelli beach. Its exciting times for Llanelli at the moment, there are so many activities for people to get involved in. A positive experience for all ages to come together and share! The summer project will conclude with an exhibition of the work created at The Ffwrnes Theatre arts gallery, opens at 11am on the 30th August and will be running for the whole month of September
